Red Sea Global Earns LEED Certifications

Among the highlights, Red Sea International Airport (RSI) has become the first airport in Saudi Arabia, and only the fifth worldwide, to secure LEED Platinum status

Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer of regenerative tourism destinations The Red Sea and AMAALA, has announced a series of major achievements in sustainable design and operations, with several of its assets earning LEED certifications.

Among the highlights, Red Sea International Airport (RSI) has become the first airport in Saudi Arabia, and only the fifth worldwide, to secure LEED Platinum status.

Turtle Bay International School (TBIS) also received LEED Platinum certification, achieving the highest score ever recorded under the LEED v4 Building Design and Construction (BD+C): Schools rating system. In addition, RSG’s Central Distribution Centre (CDC) attained LEED Gold, positioning it among the most sustainable warehouse facilities in the region. Meanwhile, the AMAALA Triple Bay and Staff Village masterplans achieved LEED Platinum for Communities.

“These certifications demonstrate that sustainability sits at the core of everything we do. From 100% renewable energy and advanced water reuse solutions to low-carbon mobility, sustainability, and regeneration inform every aspect of our operations. Each certified asset reinforces our ambition to deliver positive environmental, social, and economic outcomes,” said Raed Albasseet, Group Chief Environment and Sustainability Officer at RSG.

Saudi Arabia’s first LEED Platinum Airport

RSI has earned LEED Platinum certification from Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), making it the first airport in Saudi Arabia—and one of only five globally—to achieve this distinguished rating.

The certification acknowledges RSI’s pioneering sustainability approach, characterised by 100% renewable energy operations, advanced energy-efficiency systems, and the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for seaplane flights. It also represents the outcome of years of cross-functional cooperation, underscoring RSG’s holistic strategy to building infrastructure that creates long-term environmental, social, and economic value.

Highest-scoring LEED-certified school in the world

Turtle Bay International School (TBIS) has been awarded LEED Platinum certification, achieving an unprecedented 92 points—the highest score ever recorded under the LEED v4 BD+C: Schools rating system.

Globally, only 15 schools have reached this level of recognition. TBIS now becomes the first school in Saudi Arabia to attain this distinction, setting a new standard for sustainable education, innovative architectural design, and regenerative learning environments. More
